Program support
For World Education’s programs in Laos; for the Cultural Department of Luang Prabang’s efforts to train monks to preserve old Buddhist paintings in temples in Luang Prabang and other parts of Laos; and for the Luang Prabang Orphanage School to provide children with basic supplies, including food, clothing, medicines, books, and educational materials.
World Education’s programs in Laos alleviate suffering and poverty caused by unexploded bombs from the Vietnam War, which remain a threat to rural Laos communities. Hundreds of people in Laos are injured and killed each year by unexploded ordnance. Through both prevention education and survivor assistance, these projects will reach hundreds of children and adults in the poorest areas.
Founded in 1951 to meet the needs of the educationally disadvantaged worldwide, World Education (WE) provides training and technical assistance in non-formal education across a wide array of sectors. WE conducts programs in health, literacy, numeracy, business and civic participation skills, and access to credit. Since its founding, WE has provided training and technical assistance in over 60 countries in all regions of the globe. WE supports the development of many types of indigenous non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and community-based organizations to achieve long-term results. It has three divisions: United States, Africa, and Asia and Special Projects. The Asia and Special Projects Division works in capacity building for NGOs, environmental education, youth development, vocational education, economic development, war victim assistance, refugee assistance, and combating child labor and sexual exploitation.
World Education has worked in Laos since 1991. Its programs are implemented in close collaboration with local Lao partners at the village, provincial and national levels, as well as with other NGOs and UN agencies. WE’s programs focus on the most disadvantaged, including ethnic groups, women, people with disabilities, and communities in remote areas.
